Feb. 24th Lenten Worship Services tentatively cancelled

The National Weather Service is forecasting several inches of snow and strong winds resulting in blizzard-like conditions tomorrow evening.  For everyone’s safety driving after dark in potential blizzard-like conditions, Pastor and the elders have decided to tentatively cancel worship services for Wednesday, February 24th.  If weather conditions change, worship services may be held, although the meal will still be cancelled.  Please check back here at the church’s website tomorrow afternoon, or listen to WJBC to determine if services will be held.

Feb 24th Meal cancelled

The National Weather Service is forecasting several inches of snow and strong winds resulting in blizzard-like conditions tomorrow evening.  So that those preparing the Lenten meal can know how to plan, Pastor and the elders have decided to cancel the meal for Feb. 24th.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Luke 4:8: And Jesus answered him, “It is written, . . .” Isn’t it interesting that Jesus does not defeat Satan with His power as God, but rather by His perfect obedience in His perfect humanity? Jesus defeats Satan not by miracles, but by quoting the Scriptures and living according to it. This should cause us great joy for two reasons. First, because we see Jesus win the victory for us. Second, because here Jesus shows us how to stand in that victory: on the Word of God alone. Let us build our lives on the sure rock of this Word!

THE ADULT BIBLE CLASS, led by Pastor Lueck and meeting in the church basement at 9:15 a.m. is studying “Lutheran Doctrine and Practice Today”.

TODAY IN SUNDAY SCHOOL: “The Baptism of Jesus” is the Bible story taught in Sunday School today. God sent the Holy Spirit at Jesus’ Baptism, announcing that Jesus was God’s Son. At our Baptism, God makes us His children through the work of the Holy Spirit. Let your children tell you the dramatic events of this story.

TODAY is our 2nd Sunday door Offering for Seminarian Brad Ferch.

Bulletin Announcements – July 5, 2016

 Bulletin Announcements  †

July 5, 2015

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  2 Corinthians 12:10: “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities.” Paul found contentment in Christ. To be content means to accept what the Lord gives us at any given time as somehow being from the hand of the Father who wants to bless us. Sometimes it’s hard to see how things like hardships, calamities, and insults will turn out for a blessing: but that is why Paul found this contentment in Christ and not in his own wisdom.

PASTOR’S SCHEDULE: Pastor will be out of the office tomorrow, Monday, July 6th, as he and Lay Delegate Steve Parry attend the District Convention for our Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The Convention is at the Crowne Plaza in Springfield, IL. The congregation is invited to the opening worship service tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield.

NEXT SUNDAY, JULY 12th, will be our door Offering for Reverend Michael Kearney and family.

20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION UPDATE: You have through NEXT SUNDAY, July 12th, to make your reservations for the 20th Church Anniversary Celebration Dinner on Saturday, July 18th. Entertainment will be the music group, The Schueler’s, from Christ Lutheran Church. While our program is being presented, the young children will be entertained with crafts in the Day Care area. Also, as you know, the Special Project for this 20th Anniversary is the repair and update of the organ. Today and next Sunday, July 12th, will be the final collection for this project. The container for your contribution will be in the narthex of the church. Collection update: As of June 29, 2015, we have collected $9,100.00. THE LUTHERAN HOUR: “In Him!” is the topic for next Sunday. The sermon text will be from Ephesians 1:3-14. In Christ, we find rescue, forgiveness, and new life. Outside of Christ, all is still broken, dying, or dead. The speaker will be Reverend Gregory Seltz. Hear this Sunday’s message on the Lutheran Hour on WGN (720) at 6:00 a.m.; WJWR (104.7 FM) and WJWR (90.3 FM) both on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Also, if you can receive Lincoln, IL radio station WLLM (1370 AM) the program is broadcast two times on Sunday at 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tune in! Report to Congregation & Pics from Ft. Wayne Seminary Co-Op — 1-30-15 (Courtesy of John & Paula Hardy)

Concordia Seminary Fort Wayne, Indiana

Our Trip to bring your gifts to the clothing co-op at the Seminary at Fort Wayne allows us the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful campuses that I have ever seen. You enter the campus from Clinton Street without actually seeing the campus. The first thing you see is the statue of Martin Luther. Then you see some of the buildings and the chapel.

This year we were there while school was in session and there was quite a bit of activity on campus. Since the co-op is closed on the weekends we had to go to the gymnasium in order to find someone who could contact security. There was a soccer activity of some sort going on in the gym with dozens of children and parents in attendance.

We met the security guard (a seminarian) who unlocked the co-op for us. As we began to unload our cargo he received a call to open the food co-op for someone else. He later returned after we finished unloading. He was very concerned about the upcoming snow as he was an “Alabama boy.” He (as were every other person we have come into contact with at the seminary) was very grateful for the donations. He said that without the support of congregations that he and the other seminarians would not be able to complete their journey. After a short discussion of each of us being a different member of the body of Christ with different talents he was again called away and we left the seminary.

As you can see by the pictures there is a storeroom which the donations are collected (or in our case left). In an adjoining room volunteers separate the donations and stock the various rooms like this one pictured. This room happens to be women’c clothing. There are rooms for men’s clothing and children’s clothing as well as toys and household goods. To “shop” at the co-op the student or his/her spouse must show a Concordia student ID. Concordia Fort Wayne has a Deacon/Deaconess program as well as a program for pastors.

We would like to thank you all for your donations which allow us to visit the seminary each year. We have had the pleasure of visiting some of the students that we have sponsored during some of our trips.

We plan on returning there again some time next year and appeal to you again for donations to fill up our truck for the next trip.

Sincerely and Respectfully in Christ’s service,

John & Paula Hardy
