THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Isaiah 51:6 – “For the heavens vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment.”  The things of this earth that hold our attention, that cause us worry, that tempt us away from the Lord: they are all passing away.  They will vanish like a garment.  They are not for us to worry over, but rather to use for the Lord’s purposes.  The things of this world are not ends in and of themselves, but only means to be used wisely by the children of the Kingdom that has no end.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Hebrews 10:14 – “For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” Our Lord Jesus has provided the one offering for sin.  What we offer to the Lord is not a sacrifice for sin; we cannot buy our way into heaven with our money, works, or effort.  Rather, what we give to the Lord’s work in the Church is a thank offering, a sign of our dependency on God and all He has given us.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Mark 12:44 – “For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”  From Old Testament times right through to today the Lord has urged us to give to His work in the Church in proportion to how He has blessed us.  He has also called us to sacrificial giving; that is, giving that actually costs us something.  That’s the shape of true Christian generosity.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  “With angels, archangels, and with all the company of heaven …” When we gather around the altar of the Lord in His House we pray and praise God with “all the company of heaven.”  Those we have lost in the Lord are not truly lost to us – they have simply entered their rest with the Lord.  As we gather to worship our Lord, we gather along with them.  On the Last Day everything that God has given into the care of our stewardship will fade away – everything except our brothers and sisters in Christ.  Caring for one another in love and grace is our highest calling.

TODAY:  Thank you and Lord’s blessings to Reverend Mel Weseloh from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Minier who is conducting the worship service in Pastor Lueck’s absence.  Pastor and Toni are in Bourbonnais this weekend for Karson’s Senior Day for Olivet Nazarene Football.  Today they are worshipping in Manteno at Pastor’s friends church with the boys.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Romans 3:20 – “For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.”  The Law of God is good – it’s just that we sinners cannot save ourselves by the Law.  Salvation is a free gift of God because that is the only way we could ever be saved.  The Law shows us God’s holiness and thus our own sin.  And now in Christ we can look at the Law and see it in a new light as well – as a guide for how to live a godly life in thanksgiving to God for His gracious forgiveness in Christ.
