Bulletin Announcements July 7, 2019

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP: Luke 10:20 – “But rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” No one can snatch us out of the nail-marked hands of Jesus. He has redeemed us and claimed us as His own. As those whose names are written in heaven, we seek to live heavenly lives here on earth. This is the foundation of all our good works, including the good work of faithfully supporting the work of the Church. It’s our joy in having been redeemed by the Lord through the activity of the Church that motivates us to support the Church.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  1 Kings 19:18 – “Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”  Elijah was sure that he was right, that he was the only one left who had not gone after Baal.  But he was too pessimistic. His faith in God was off-center.  We can’t go by our own wisdom.  We must trust the Lord and what He has revealed to us in His Word. Think about how this applies to our support of God’s work in the Church with our offering.  Read the Table of Duties in Luther’s Small Catechism to see what the Bible says about our giving.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Acts 2:1 – “When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.”  Notice that Pentecost is actually an Old Testament festival.  It happens around the time when the wheat and oats are ready to be brought in.  In the New Testament, this becomes a picture and foreshadowing of the great harvest of humankind that God means to bring in through the preaching of His Word.  God gives the seed, and God brings about the harvest – through the work of His Church.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:   Acts 1:16 – “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.”  Judas sold out our Lord for 30 pieces of silver.  That is, he sold out his friend, Master, and teacher for the sake of greed.  That is a sharp reminder for us to search our own hearts for greed and to pray that the Lord would help us turn away from greed before it consumes us.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Acts 16:9 – “And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’ ”  God does all the saving of the Macedonians, but He does it through the ministry of St. Paul, who was called to go and help them. How is the Lord calling you to use your gifts for His work?

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  John 21:6 – “He said to them, ‘Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.’  So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.”  Won’t the disciples ever learn?  Jesus pulled this same trick before.  When the odds seemed completely against it, the Lord gave them a command to let down the nets, a command that seemed crazy.  But they complied. and He blessed their obedience.  When will we learn this lesson, too?
