While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Bulletin Notes

February 5th, 2011

THE ADULT BIBLE CLASS, led by Pastor Lueck, will be meeting in the basement at 9:15 a.m.

TODAY IN SUNDAY SCHOOL:
“Jesus Heals a Man Who Is Paralyzed” is the lesson for Sunday School today. The miracle of healing the paralytic confirms that Jesus, the Son of Man, has authority on earth to forgive sins and it confirms what the Son of Man chiefly came to do: deliver us and all believers from sin, death, and the power of the devil. Consider discussing, “In addition to healing the paralyzed man, what else does Jesus tell him? How has Jesus healed us from our sickness of sin?”

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:
1 Corinthians 9:16-27: St. Paul had the beautiful gift of showing such concern for others that he would refrain from doing what he was perfectly free to do so that the Gospel of Jesus would be better received by those to whom he was witnessing. One of the beautiful aspects of Christian stewardship is seeking and doing those things that are in the best interest and welfare of those around us!

TODAY:
Please visit the Lutheran Hour Ministries display table in the narthex today and pick up material that may assist you in your witness and outreach. Billions of people throughout the world live in darkness. We need to share the light of Christ with them. Pray for and support Lutheran Hour Ministries.

NEXT SUNDAY,
February 12th, we will have our monthly door offering for Seminarian Michael Kearney.

GOOD SHEPHERD PRAYER CHAIN:
Anyone who is not currently involved with our church Prayer Chain and would like to join up may contact Mary Anne Kirchner at (309) 661-6522 or email her at makirchner@yahoo.com. You can either be on the phone side of the tree or email side of the tree. Thank you.

FELLOWSHIP HOSTS: The new sign-up has been posted for help with coffee/doughnuts. It is on the wall by the north stairwell. We need an individual/family to sign up each week to pick up the donuts and make the coffee. If no one is signed up by Friday of each week, the order will be cancelled. We thank everybody who continues to help with this part of our church fellowship.

WITTENBERGERS ASSISTING SEMINARIANS: Continuing this year, all proceeds from the coin-operated washers and dryers, as well as the soda machine and recycled aluminum cans, are being sent to a seminarian at one of our LC-MS Seminaries. Our future Pastors and Deaconesses endure great financial strain in order to answer the call to ministry, and in this small way the students at Wittenberg are showing their gratitude and support, while being faithful stewards of God’s gifts to us. Last semester, a contribution was sent to former Wittenbergers and ISU alums Michael and Erica Kearney, and their new son Anderson. Michael is a second-year seminarian at Ft. Wayne.

LUTHERAN HOUR: “You Can’t Muzzle True Joy” is the topic for next Sunday. The text will be from Mark 1:40-45. Joy is rooted in a relationship with God. You can’t muzzle joy when that joy is connected to Jesus. The speaker is Reverend Gregory Seltz. Hear his message on the Lutheran Hour on WGN (720) at 6:00 a.m.; WSPL (1250) Streator at 10:00 a.m. You can also listen to The Lutheran Hour on your personal computer at RealAudio, www.lhm.org.

NURSERY AVAILABLE: We have a staffed nursery during both worship services if your child becomes restless. Please see one of our ushers who can direct you to it.

INFORMATION REQUESTED: Please notify the church office if someone in the congregation or any family or friends are ill or hospitalized.

FROM THE CHURCH OFFICE: If you miss church, please be reminded that copies of the previous week’s sermon are available on the table in the narthex. Also, the sermon will be available on our web site at www.goodshepherdblm.org. Thank you.
