Bulletin Announcements March 22, 2020

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Ps. 142:5 – “I cry to you, O LORD; I say, ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.’ ”  The Lord is our portion, our refuge, our everything. His mercy preserves us through all our days in the land of the living.  This confidence frees us from the fear that so often leads to sins of greed and coveting. We have the Lord, we have a Father, and He is in control.  We can follow His Word in confidence.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Exodus 17:3 – “But the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, ‘Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?’ ”  Even the Israelites who saw miracles with their own eyes fall into unbelief and fear.  From this distance we can see how foolish their worry is.  How foolish will our worries appear from the distance of eternity? The Lord cared for them, and He will care for us.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Matt. 4:7 – Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” Jesus defeats Satan in our place – not by using His power as God but by His perfect obedience in His perfect humanity.  Jesus defeats Satan – not by miracles but by quoting the Scriptures and living according to it.  This should cause us great joy for two reasons.  First, because we see Jesus win the victory for us. Second, because here Jesus shows us how to stand in that victory – on the Word of God alone.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  1 Cor. 3:7 – “So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.”  Isn’t that the truth! It’s not just true about preachers like Paul; it’s true about all of us in the Christian life.  God can do such wonderful things with our feeble efforts.  This is so very true of our gifts to the Lord’s work in the church.  From His generous giving to us, we learn to give generously. Then the Lord blesses this response to His grace in turn, and He uses our very giving to continue to bless us in the church where we hear of His gracious generosity to us.  The cycle repeats, and the Lord gives growth!

Bulletin Announcements February 9, 2020

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP:  Matthew. 5:17 – “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”  We cannot keep the Law of God perfectly.  We are sinners.  For us to be saved, Jesus had to fill up the Law in our place.  Now the threat of the Law is abolished, and the Law itself is upheld.  For in Christ now we desire to fulfill the Law and to live out a godly Christian life.  This is precisely because we are so full of thanksgiving toward God for His salvation in Christ.
